District Rules
District 19-4A Soccer Rules & Policies

1. Game Dates and Times – The game dates and times will not be changed without the mutual consent of the two teams involved. However, the home team is responsible for determining if a game should be cancelled due to weather or field conditions. It is strongly recommended that both teams begin a dialogue early in the day should weather possibly be a factor in whether or not a game may have to be rescheduled. Should a game be postponed, the UIL rules governing rescheduling games will be followed.

2. Game Lengths – Varsity games will be 80 minutes in length. Junior Varsity games will also be 70 minutes in length BUT must be concluded by 6:30pm if it is being played on the same field. Junior Varsity halves should be shortened ahead of time if there appears to be a problem. Games suspended due to weather will be completed same night if possible. If not, NFHS rules regarding game replay or completion will be followed.

3. Game Balls – Game balls must be size 5, primarily white, and approved by the referee. There should be a minimum of three game balls available to keep play moving.

4. Home Team Responsibilities – Home team must supply ball shaggers for the game. A minimum of two ball shaggers is required.

5. Games ending in a draw – ALL Varsity, two (2) 10 minute overtime periods, if still tied after overtime a shoot-out to determine a winner will be played. Junior Varsity matches ending in a tie will remain a tie.

6. Results – Varsity and Junior Varsity results are as follows:

               - Win = 3 points:
               - Loss = 0 points:
               - Overtime win 3 points:
               - Overtime loss 0 points:
               - Shoot-out win 2 points:
               - Shoot-out loss 1 point:

7. Tiebreakers – Teams that tie for the district championship are declared co-champions. Tiebreakers for determining ALL play-off seeding are as follows:

8. If 2 teams are tied –

  1. Head to Head points
  2. Head to Head goal difference (no maximum)
  3. Overall district goal difference (maximum goal difference of +3, no maximum on goal difference in a loss)
  4. District goals scored (maximum of 3 per game)
  5. Play-off game unless the two schools agree on an alternative (coin flip, etc)
  6. If the tie is for fourth place, the tiebreaker sequence will be #1 above, then straight to a play-off game.

9. If 3 or more teams are tied –

  1. Head to Head points on games between the teams involved
  2. Head to Head goal difference (no maximum)
  3. Overall district goal difference (maximum goal difference of +3, no maximum on goal difference in a loss)
  4. District goals scored (maximum of 3 per game)
  5. Goals conceded no max
  6. Play-off games as follows: 1st place - Coin Flip with odd team getting #1 seed and the other two playing for 2nd and 3rd seeds. 2nd place – Coin Flip determines who gets 2nd seed, the other two play each other for the 3rd seed. 3rd place – Coin Flip determines who gets the bye, the other two play to determine who plays the bye team for the 3rd seed.
  7. In the event of a three way tie for third, straight coin flips, odd team finished third and the remaining two go to #1 above and if still tied, go to a one-game play-off for fourth.

11. Officials – Brazos valley Referee Chapter is the only approved chapter for district games. A three man system is to be used. Should less than three officials show up to do a VARSITY match, BOTH schools must agree to go ahead and play or the match will be rescheduled following UIL weather rescheduling policies. Once the game has begun, no protest will be allowed in regards to the number of officials used in the game.

12. All-District Selection – The all-district selection meeting (boys & girls) will be at Magnolia West HS, regardless of who wins district (b & g), the meeting will take place Wednesday, March 25, unless there are teams with a play-off conflict. In the event of a conflict, the teams in the play-offs will reschedule around their games.
